Have you noticed small, black dots on your homes siding? It could be Artillery fungus!

Have you noticed small, black dots on your homes siding? It could be Artillery fungus!
In the last few months I have found numerous homes and business in the Tallahassee area with artillery fungus infestations during my inspections.

The artillery fungus is a wood-decay fungus that likes to live on moist mulch. The spores of the genus Sphaerobolus commonly known as the "artillery fungus" species discharge their spores with explosive force and will attach themselves to siding, automobiles, or any light colored surface. The small black spores are very hard to remove once they have attached themselves to a surface and can cause permanent damage. In most cases, the mulch that was laid around the home was already contaminated with this fungus before it was put in.

If artillery spores are noticed on siding or even your car, there could be contaminated mulch nearby that would need to be discarded and replaced to prevent further spore damage to your home/car.
